Our Reception Classes at Bright Skies
In the Reception Classes, our experienced teachers work together to develop children’s individual academic strengths, talents and personality. Our Reception pupils explore seven areas of learning via cross-curricular topics, teacher-led activities and child-directed play. This is an important year as children learn to read and write via the internationally respected and enjoyable Jolly Phonics Programme that we introduce early in the year. High frequency words in the English language are also taught at this year level. Reading books are sent home in the second half of the school year.
The class follows the Foundation Stage Curriculum, based on the National Curriculum of England’s Early Learning Goals. The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) serves as a thorough preparation for progression into Year One of primary school.
The English Foundation Stage Curriculum defines Early Learning Goals in seven areas of learning. These are:
National Curriculum of England’s Early Learning Areas
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication and Language Development
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
- Mandarin or French
In keeping with our preschool’s global aims and philosophy, we place a balanced emphasis on the acquisition of an understanding of a second language. Children can enroll in an English full day programme or study Mandarin or French in the afternoons. Mathematics at this level will be based on the internationally respected Singapore National Curriculum.
Thai
As directed by the Thai Ministry of Education, Thai language and cultural lessons will also be held several times a week for all students.
